William Chatterton Dix (born, June 14, 1837; died, September 9, 1898) was a writer of many famous hymns and carols. He was born in Bristol, England; the son of John Dix, a doctor and writer. His father gave him his middle name in honor of Thomas Chatterton, a poet who he wrote a biography about before.
He died at Cheddar, Somerset, England, and was buried at Parish church.
